The Benefits of Wool

There is a reason wool has been used for thousands of years. Long before synthetic fabrics existed, people relied on wool for warmth, comfort, and durability.

Today, wool is making a strong comeback. In a world where people are increasingly choosing natural materials and sustainable products, more and more people are rediscovering the benefits of wool plaids, blankets, tapestries and accessories.

From our own Scottish tartans to virgin wool plaids, body warmers, slippers, and rugs, our wool products combine timeless style with exceptional comfort.

But what exactly makes wool so special?

1. Natural warmth without overheating

One of the greatest advantages of wool is its excellent insulation. The fiber structure of wool traps heat, keeping wool plaids and blankets wonderfully warm during cold days.

But wool has another unique property: it regulates temperature.

This means wool:

  • retains heat when it is cold

  • releases excess heat when it becomes warmer

As a result, wool products remain comfortable in every season.

A soft virgin wool plaid on the couch or a warm wool body warmer can therefore be used all year round.

2. Breathable and moisture-regulating

Wool can absorb up to 30% of its own weight in moisture without feeling wet.

This means wool products:

  • absorb moisture

  • allow it to evaporate slowly

  • help regulate your body temperature

The result: a plaid or garment that stays warm, dry, and comfortable.

This is one of the reasons wool is often used in high-quality clothing and interior textiles.

3. Durable and made to last

Wool is one of the strongest natural fibers. The Fibers are flexible, resilient and wear-resistant.

That's why a high-quality wool plaid can last for many years, even with daily use. This makes wool not only a comfortable choice, but also a sustainable investment.

4. A natural and environmentally friendly material

Wool is a renewable natural fiber that mainly comes from sheep but also lambs, camels, alpaca's and so many more animals!

The main difference between systhetic fabrics and wool, is that wool is biodegradable, it won't release microplastics and it comes from a natural source, meaning animals.

That’s why more and more people choose wool products when they want to make their interior more sustainable.

5. Dirt-repellent and easy to maintain

Something that not many people know, but a surprising advantage of wool is that it is naturally dirt-repellent.

The fiber structure prevents dirt from easily attaching, which means wool products:

  • stain less quickly

  • need to be washed less often

  • stay fresh longer

So naturally, wool products absorb odors less quickly, which helps them stay fresh for longer. This makes wool ideal for items that are used frequently, such as plaids, slippers, and body warmers.

A good example is a wool dog basket. Dogs often go outside, come back in with damp fur or the typical “dog smell,” and then curl up in their bed. With many synthetic materials, that smell quickly gets trapped in the fabric. Wool behaves differently. Thanks to its natural fiber structure and the presence of lanolin, wool helps neutralize odors and allows moisture to evaporate instead of holding onto it.

As a result, even when a dog regularly lies in a wool dog basket after being outdoors, the basket tends to stay noticeably fresher and cleaner than beds made from synthetic fabrics.

6. Hypoallergenic and skin-friendly

Many high-quality types of wool are hypoallergenic and therefore suitable for most people.

Wool also contains lanolin, a natural substance that helps reduce bacteria.

This often makes wool products a good choice for people who are sensitive to synthetic materials.

Why more and more people are choosing wool again

In a world where many products are quickly made and quickly disappear, more and more people consciously choose materials that are:

  • natural

  • long-lasting

  • comfortable

  • and offer timeless quality

Wool combines all of these qualities.
